Week of the Young Child

Celebrate Week of the Young Child with us!

Smart Start of Mecklenburg County is celebrating NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child, a time dedicated to celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, and families. We will be co-hosting events during the week of April 8-13 with nonprofits around Mecklenburg County celebrating art, music, food, families and more. We invite you to join us at the end of the week for a FREE Family Fun Fair at Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday, April 13th from 10am-2pm.
Music Monday
The Jolly Lollies will help us celebrate Music Monday by singing songs, playing instruments and leading dances with the students in a MECK Pre-K classroom at Marizetta Kerry CDC.
Tasty Tuesday
Charlotte Bilingual Preschool teachers and students will showcase their school gardens and share why they love to learn about growing and harvesting vegetables.
Work Together Wednesday
Smart Start staff will bring ” Follow the Bigfoot,” a multi-play and collaborative experience, to a MECK Pre-K classroom. Students will have to work together to overcome obstacles on a path to finding Bigfoot.
Artsy Thursday
Smart Start will share the benefits of a weekly art class by showcasing art time at First United Methodist CDC.

We will celebrate Family Friday on a Saturday this year at our FREE Family Fun Fair! Join us on Saturday, April 13 at Johnson C. Smith University from 10am-2pm for music, food, face painting, vendors, raffles, cooking demonstrations and more.
